Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Scholarship Activation
I have been awarded a scholarship. How do I activate my scholarship?
The scholarship is activated upon arrival of the student in the destination country. The student is required to provide the following documents to the UAE Attaché office:
Copy of bio-page of the passort.
Copy of the passport page showing the entry stamp.
Student Information form (PDF or Word).
Signed consent letter (PDF or Word) to authorise accessing the student's academic records.
When I arrive in the destination, will there be anyone to welcome me and pick me up at the airport?
For the students who have scholarships from the UAE Ministry of Education, they enjoy the airport pickup service at the destination airport under the scholarship privileges. They also get the accommodation in a hotel for the first six nights (accommodation and meals only).
The student must send a copy of their travel itinerary at least one week before their arrival in order to allow time to arrange for the airport pickup and accommodation procedures. A driver will wait for the student at the airport. In case of any change to the flight schedule, the student must inform the UAE Attaché office of the new arrival time/date. Otherwise, the student may not get the airport pickup service. Also, failure to check-in at the hotel on the specified date will lead to paying a penalty fee to the hotel. At least, one night will be deducted from the six nights at the hotel.
To apply for this service, access the Student Services Portal of the Ministry.
Study
What should I do to change my major or university?
The student is advised to abide by the major specified at the beginning of their study in order to avoid any waste of time and money. If the student is wanting to change major/university, they will have to apply to the Ministry explaining the reasons for that change. They must attach with the application a copy of the alternative program offer. It is very important that the student continues their original program at the first university until the approval of the change is obtained.
To apply for this service, access the Student Services Portal of the Ministry.
How many units am I allowed to enroll in every semester?
To fulfill the scholarship terms and conditions as well as the student visa requirements, the student must be studying full-time, i.e. four units at least in each semester. It could be allowed to enrol in three units if one of the units is equivalent to a double credit point weight. In the event of non-compliance of full-time enrolment, this may lead to the cancellation of the student's scholarship and/or student visa.
Can I withdraw from any unit during my study?
In limited cases, students may be allowed to withdraw from some of the units. But the student will have to submit a written application to the UAE Attaché office explaining their reasons. The student must not withdraw from any units without a prior written approval by UAE Attaché office. Otherwise, the student will be issued a notice which may lead to the cancellation of their scholarship.
What should I do if I fail and can't finish my program on time?
The student must submit a written application to the UAE Attaché office to request the extension of the academic program and attach a new program offer. The student will have to wait for the approval of the extension by the their scholarship provider.
Student Visa
My student visa has expired. What should I do?
The student must inform the UAE Attaché office immediately in order to provide all the possible assistance.
In order to renew the visa of study, the student must obtain a copy of the Confirmation of Enrollment letter (CoE) from the university. Then the student must take the CoE letter along with their passport to an office of the Department of Immigration to apply for a new student visa. Note that, in accordance with the Australian immigration regulations, the student is required to go personally to the immigration office. The assistance of a migration agent could be sought. The student will have to pay for the agent fees.
Would my low attendance or academic failure affect my student visa?
Yes, it would affect the student visa. During the initial stages of the study (Language and Foundation Program), the student must maintain an attendance of at least 80%. Otherwise, the low attendance may lead to student visa cancellation.
In the same way, persistent poor academic performance by the student and failing units may lead the university to issue academic warning notices. If the poor performance is not rectified, that could lead the university to exclude the student, as well as to notify the Department of Immigration, which exposes the student visa to cancellation.
Moreover, the UAE Attaché office will issue the student warning letters and notices if they do not succeed in their studies. In the case of repeated failure, the student's scholarship could be cancelled.
If I am to move to another university, or if my program is extended, do I have to refer to the Department of Immigration?
Yes, the student must go to the nearest office of the Department of Immigration to change their student visa. The student must take the new Confirmation of Enrolment letter (CoE).
The same thing applies to visa renewals, change of university and program extension. The reason for this is the change of the course dates which requires the update of the records at the Department of Immigration.
